This stunning Black Opal pendant is imbued with every color of a Peacock fan- neon blue, teal, purple and a flash of green. This is a true Lightning Ridge Black Opal, where the base color of the opal is a dark coal black color, which creates a striking backdrop for the colorful display of deep indigo, violet and flashes of teal. In direct natural light one can see the ribbon flash pattern, where it appears that pieces of ribbon traverse the gem east-west, resulting in a lightning strike of color. We think this piece started its life as a pin or ring, made in platinum, then was converted to a pendant by the addition of this white gold bail at some time in the 1950’s. The Opal is set in a fine bezel, then accented by collet set Diamonds accented with quintessentially Art Deco milgrain accents. Stunning!
