Retro 1940’s Diamond & Synthetic Ruby Ring in Rose Gold

The Retro jewelry era was glamorous, fun, and inventive. This swirling cocktail ring is a classic retro item, crafted in rose gold with palladium highlights, likely in New York circa 1945. Jewelers began working with these different materials due to the war- alloys necessary for yellow or white gold were needed for the war effort, so rose gold was the only option. Platinum was needed to pump out catalytic converters in cars and tanks, so palladium has to suffice. The ring is chunky and whimsical, showing the optimism and care-free nature of fashion in the post-war years. Most of these pieces were made to be relatively affordable, as is the case here. The Diamonds are of good quality, but not large, and the platinum is detailed to make them appear larger. The Rubies are synthetic- original to the ring- as was the popular choice of the time.
