Large hoop earrings, or any earrings for pierced ears, are exceptionally rare pre-1900. The concept of pierced ears was rare over 100 years ago, and those who did have their ears pierced often wore smaller or more traditional earrings, so these would have been flamboyant and fab! These hoops earrings are crafted in a rosy yellow gold from eastern Europe- maybe Romani in origin- and have their original darkened patina intact. The front of the earrings are set with old Mine Cut Diamonds and round dark blue Sapphires (in original condition and showing light signs of wear) that sparkle and dance from the hoops. After the gems, the earrings are pierced with clover or cross designs which lighten the weight of the earrings and add interest at all angles. The earrings have a medium weight wire, hinged from the back, that locks in the front, allowing the hoops to hang lightly on the ears and dance in the light. These are ravishing rarities, that we think graced the ears of some amazing women.
Details: 14k rosy yellow gold hoop earrings set with .40ctw old Mine Cut Diamonds (I1 GH) and .60ct round blue Sapphires (some stones chipped), circa 1860 Europe.
