In 2016 we purchased a collection from the estate of a family that had fled the Holocaust in 1937. These items were in their family when they were living in Germany and the Netherlands, and represented some of the wealth they brought to the United States. We are honored to be able to preserve these items and pass them to future generations who will respect their history.
This pendant was crafted around the turn of the century, prior to the invention of white gold, and before the equipment was perfected that allowed pieces to be made in solid platinum. Thus if jewelers wanted a white metal look to enhance the diamonds, but also a piece that would be strong and durable, they layered sheets of silver or platinum over yellow or rose gold then set the diamonds in the white metal. This particular piece is highly ornate and a great example of Edwardian style.
Details: Platinum over 14k yellow gold pendant with .60ct Euro Cut Diamond (I1 GH) and rose cut accents (.30ctw).
