Antique Pear Shape Amethyst & Diamond Engagement Ring

Amethyst is one of the more commonly encountered colored gemstones, and is also the birthstone for February. Thus as a jeweler I see many of them and it takes an exceptional Amethyst to get me excited. This ring did. The Amethyst, while not overly large, was faceted into a pear shape that is perfectly cut to produce lots of sparkle and red flashes. The Amethyst is a deep royal purple, without being too dark. In fact, it was difficult to capture the color of this gem in photos, as in real life the Amethyst flashes blue and red from a deep purple base that is quite stunning. We set this gem into a vintage mounting which came to us without a center stone. The ring is yellow gold, topped with platinum on the shoulders, and set with unusual antique Swiss cut Diamonds (an early type of fully-faceted Diamond accents). While difficult to date, we estimate this mounting as Edwardian, circa 1915, and chose the Amethyst center stone to be in keeping with the era and for the overall beauty. This ring is currently a larger ring size but comes with a complimentary sizing.
